Often when your life is under construction, you enter into the renovation as if it is against your own will. You forget that you told God, “Whatever you are doing in this season, please don’t do it without me.” You forget that you said, “Not my will, but yours, God.”
You move forward with more than trepidation about how the renovation will turn out. You can’t understand why He chooses to work in the fashion that He does. Several times you call Him up and berate Him for the amount of time He is taking and how off schedule the renovation really is. You feel He is taking advantage of you, as many contractors do.
You’re losing money and resources every day that this renovation drags on at a snail’s pace. You complain bitterly about the moments that don’t seem to align with your goals, plans, and ideas. You moan about the time being wasted during demolition that could be spent laying flooring, tile, or sheetrock.
You tell God you are going to do what He wants… but you are NOT going to like it!
You offer God a lame sacrifice… just as Israel did.
God says, “When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering that to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you? …Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great King…” (Malachi 1:7-8 &14)
God does not want lame sacrifices. He does not accept obedience diseased with complaint and grumbling. He does not need service that is completed poorly and truculently. He wants all of you, but what He really wants most of all is your faith in Him.
He wants you to go into the renovation with wonder and excitement over the possibilities. He wants you to believe they are all good, so no matter what He does, all will be better than well. He wants you to be at peace even during demolition because you know you are in good hands. He wants you to trust Him.
Do you believe that Jeremiah 29:11 is for you? Do you believe that every thought God has about you is to prosper you in body, mind, and spirit? Do you believe that He is working everything out so that you will come out on top?
Then offer God an unspotted, unblemished, perfect sacrifice. Offer Him your faith!
